In his hilarious new show Purple Van Man, 8 Out of 10 Cats team captain Sean Lock is at his idiosyncratic best – full of surreal observations and bags of energy.

Whether he’s bouncing around the stage while comparing binge drinking to moths attacking light bulbs, or venting a magnificently overblown and close-to-the-bone tirade against Ant and Dec, Lock’s performance is consistently engaging and fantastically imaginative.

A few audience members take the engagement side a little too far with incoherent heckles that Lock takes in his stride, much to the wider audience’s acclaim.

“Are you lot on a stag do and competing for the worst heckle ever?” he enquires while attempting to decipher their injections during material that veers from atheism to George Foreman grills.

Not that anyone should be surprised that he so deftly incorporates the interruptions into the show.

Lock is a vastly experienced performer with over 20 years’ experience, and tonight’s show resurrects some older (and brilliant) material about how we shudder when recalling random shameful moments.

Rounding off with some smartly timed callbacks and an absolutely hysterical visual gag, tonight is more proof, if it were needed, that Lock is one of the country’s finest comedians.
