PRINCIPAL Conductor, Kirill Karabits pushed the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to new limits in a Prom which took everyone's breath away last night.
The crowd was greeted with a resplendent wall of brass which really enabled the BSO's brass section to show their mettle (and their metal) in Janacek's remarkable Sinfonietta.
Making his third Proms appearance, Kirill Karabits had an energising presence on the podium, without being too domineering.
South Korean pianist Sunwook Kim really picked up the gauntlet thrown by Beethoven in his stormiest piano concerto- No.3 in C minor.
The 25-year-old, who came to international recognition after winning the 2006 International Piano Competition, truly marked his Proms debut and played an intense encore to rapturous applause.
Lyricism and intimacy were both beautifully exemplified in Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.3 in D major, 'Polish'.
Classical in form, the BSO truly showcased the drama and conflict in the symphony which points to strong similarities with Mozart.
The evening has placed the BSO firmly on the map as of on the most dynamic orchestras in the UK.
