LEAD on Les Miserables. The world's longest running musical is now in its 27th year, and all four vocalists of this top quality company who have, at one time or another, starred in a production themselves, are back with their latest tribute to the “people's flag-waver,” along with other West End hits, in a sparkling non-stop showstoppers show.
David Fawcett is the friendly frontman, his strong voice to the fore in such numbers as the patriotic Anthem from Chess and Bring Him Home from Les Miserables and Only You from Starlight Express, in which he apologised for, alas, no longer being able to fit the lycra tight body suit from twenty five years back – never mind roller skating across the stage.
Fellow male vocalist, Andy Reiss, who also accompanies the band on keyboards, makes a splendidly gauche Seymour to Katie Leeming's Audrey in Suddenly Seymour, from the hilarious Little Shop Of Horrors.
Other Katie Leeming highlights included Don't Cry For Me Argentina, from Lloyd-Weber's Evita, and as Christine from the prolific composer's Phantom, and Love Never Dies, Sarah Ryan was perfectly enchanting.
Ending with their Les Miserables selection, the enthusiastic audience demand for one more song was immediately granted – with the rousing One Day More.
