THE fun party-time's over - the Nazi Party's era starts here. Hitler's ominous rise to power in early 1930s Germany provides the background to the hugely-popular stage and screen musical, Cabaret, which Bournemouth and Boscombe's Light Opera Company perform with a splendidly seedy ' Willkommen to Berlin ' brio.
The atmosphere of the risque Kit Kat Night Club is brought to life by the Bob Fosse-inspired choreography from the eye-catching ' Flappers', and an excellent Frank Ewins as the droll, multi-faced Master of Ceremonies, with aptly brash accompaniment from the company's own orchestra.
The star turn of the club is, of course, the very English Sally Bowles, Sally Wheeler doing the Liza Minnelli part proud, who falls for the struggling American writer, Cliff Bradshaw, played by Sam Street. Unlike the good time girl Sally, Cliff gradually becomes aware of the growing dangers to them all, as does his landlady, Fraulein Schneider ( Nikki Taylor ) who abruptly abandons her fiance, the local Jewish grocer, Herr Schultz ( David Bate ) to the words of What Would You Do ?
Even more chilling is the Hitler Youth's Tomorrow Belongs To Me. But it's the embracing spirit of Sally's Life Is A Cabaret that will endure. Running till Saturday, for a great night out your table is waiting.
