IT was hit, after hit, after hit at the BIC on Saturday night as The Crystals, Tavares, Four Tops and The Temptations took to the stage.
Not all the bands have all their original members, but that didn’t seem to bother the adoring audience.
The Crystals kicked off the evening with classics including Da Doo Ron Ron and And Then He Kissed Me.
Tavares, my personal highlight, got the crowd going with It Only Takes A Minute, More Than A Woman and Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel.
The Four Tops performed energetic versions of golden oldies Loco in Acapulco, I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch), Bernadette, before launching into a lengthy tribute to past members. A nice touch, but it really slowed things down.
I was disappointed when favourites Reach Out I’ll Be There and Standing in the Shadows of Love were merged for their finale.
The Temptations showed today’s acts how it’s done with their slick moves and perfect harmonies.
Lesser-known hits were mixed with classics Get Ready, Treat Her Like A Lady and Ain’t Too Proud To Beg, before ending with the crowd-pleasing “Temptations’ National Anthem” My Girl.
They didn’t call it the magic of Motown for nothing – a great night out.
