WESTBOURNE’S packed Funnybone Comedy Club hosted a Devon double on Saturday night.
FHM stand-up hero 2010 and Chortle Best Breakthrough Act nominee 2011, Josh Widdicombe, pictured above, and the manic Charlie Baker delivered a comedy masterclass.
In time, this up-and-coming pair will surely be selling out larger venues, so it was a treat to see them working this intimate setting. Josh, who must have been lapping up the three stag parties in the front row, opened with an homage to the tiny Devon village where he grew up.
His laid back routine, which felt in no-way constructed, was packed with quirky observations about a village boy adjusting to big city London life. By contrast, Charlie took the stage like a demonic Harley Davidson – revving around with frenetic energy.
The mix of jokes, song and dance, from a guy described as Devon’s answer to Frank Sinatra, had the audience begging for more. Definitely a couple of funnymen poised to take the world by storm.
