FOR two and a half hours, a packed audience were able to relive the 60 years of the Queen’s reign through songs, music and anecdotes.
Presented by Neil Sands with two talented singers, Gemma Turner and Carolyn Hodgson, the show opened with songs from Oliver, Mary Poppins and My Fair Lady and then we were reminded of stars of the era.
These included Sandy Shaw’s Puppet On a String, Flanagan and Allen’s Underneath The Arches and Danny La Rue’s On Mother Kelly’s Doorstep.
Max Bygraves Tulips from Amsterdam and Cliff Richard’s Living Doll eventually led to Vera Lynn’s White Cliffs of Dover and We’ll Meet Again.
After the interval, we were re-introduced to The Beatles, Dusty Springfield and the 1970s.
Last Night of The Proms featured Rule Britannia and Land Of Hope & Glory with audience participation and finally, a very patriotic flag-waving tribute to the veterans of the armed forces. Musical backing was provided by Tom Smith and Phil Segnon.
