THREE days into the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations and a few cynical souls might have had their fill of pomp and circumstance.

But there was absolutely no sign of the Jubilee spirit flagging at the BSO Proms in the Park Party, where an estimated 3,000 people were determined to carry on celebrating.

Coinciding the BSO's proms with the Jubilee was a no-brainer, the two were a perfect match. And a patriotic, stirring programme of music captured the mood perfectly.

Highlights of the first half included the gentle lilting melody of Fantasia on Greensleeves and the ever-popular William Tell's Overture, as well as a medley of modern Disney favourites.

But the real fun started when the sun went down and the atmosphere cranked up a notch after the interval with the haunting Schindler's List, Elgar's Imperial March (written for Queen Victoria's Jubilee in 1897) and then finally the Ride of the Valkyries, Land of Hope and Glory and God Save the Queen. A flawless performance from the BSO, accompanied by amazing fireworks, to mark a very special occasion.
