Act now to achieve a vibrant and colourful summer garden, says Kevin Holmes from Haskins Ferndown

A very happy Easter from all of us here at Haskins Ferndown. Spring is finally upon us, and the long Easter weekend is the perfect opportunity to get back out in your garden again and get planning for the year ahead.

After the long and dark winter days, one thing you want to be sure of when summer finally does arrive is that you have a vibrant and colourful array of plants and flowers.

It’s the perfect time to be planting summer flowering bulbs like dahlias, lilies, begonias and gladioli. Bulbs are the easiest and most rewarding garden plants to grow and bring beautiful scents as well as ensuring summer colour.

Why not try growing some bulbs in pots so they can be placed where you want them when they flower? Add splashes of colour by planting out hanging baskets and patio containers of summer bedding.

We’ve got a great selection to choose from including petunias, fuchsia, and bacopa to name a few. Use a compost containing water-retaining granules and a liquid feed to keep them looking good.
