Some Girls star Mandeep Dhillon has insisted she is nothing like her sarcastic character Saz.
The Asian actress – who takes on a different role in new BBC Three comedy Fried – has played schoolgirl Saz in the hit comedy since 2012 and revealed that everybody thinks she is like her character.
Mandeep revealed: “I’ll get stopped on the street for Saz every day.
“I’m not that sarcastic at all, I don’t really like maths to be honest, and I’m not socially inept. People will say, ‘No, you are’ [like her] but I think there are a load of differences. There are some similarities though. Most of her facial expressions are mine from when I was younger, pulling silly faces in the mirror.”
In Fried, Mandeep plays a spoilt girl whose dad has made her get a job in a fried chicken shop to learn the value of money.
The young actress – who also appeared with Kiefer Sutherland in London-based 24 spin-off Live Another Day – is pleased not to have found herself typecast.
She said: “Luckily my agent is amazing because I don’t get stereotyped as just another Asian actress. So it’s a situation now where I’m very lucky to just get called in a room for acting… as long as I stay out of that bracket I’ll be happy to do whatever.
“I’d love to do some action though; it would be so much fun. I’d love to do my own stunts and work with guns. I know that sounds crazy, but just to have that training would be awesome.”
Fried begins on BBC Three on Tuesday, August 25.
