TURKEY'S have received some pretty bad press recently. But with the Bernard Matthews bird-flu fiasco brushed firmly under the carpet it seems turkeys are trying to make a come back.
Phil Vickery, a favourite on BBC2's Ready Steady Cook and ITV's This Morning, is challenging a selection of sporting celebrities and TV chefs to create a new Super Turkey Recipe in a bid to turn British Turkey into one of our nations favourite meals. It's hoped the winning dish will rank alongside other timeless classics such as Spag Bol, Toad-in-the-Hole and Shepherd's Pie.
Phil took to the ski slopes with his barbecue to prove British turkey is not just for Christmas. But you don't have to go to such extremes he says.
"The point of the challenge is to show you can enjoy British turkey anywhere, any time of the year. And because turkey is a superfood, it's extra reason to get creative in the kitchen."
Phil is challenging three health conscious sporting heroes - champion jockey Frankie Dettori, tennis ace Annabel Croft and rugby star Matt Dawson - plus three of his professional chef mates from Ready Steady Cook - Lesley Waters, Paul Rankin and Nick Nairn - to each create one dish. Their recipes will be published on britishturkey.co.uk and the public will be able to vote for their favourite later this year.
Think you can do better than these sporting stars and culinary geniuses? If so British Turkey industry want to hear from you. Submit your original British turkey recipe online and you could win a fabulous weekend break. Not only that but a donation will be given to the children's charity SPARKS for every recipe received.
