With the scariest night of the year just around the corner, celebrate Halloween in style by conjuring up some devilish desserts and sweet treats for your little monsters!

Meringue Monster Cake - makes 1 monster
- 5 meringue nests
- Squirty cream
- Handful fresh blueberries
- 1 kiwi fruit, peeled and sliced
- Green and red liquorice - for arms and lips
- Liquorice sweets - for eyes and teeth
- Strawberry sauce, optional
Place the first meringue nest on a board. Squirt generously with a large swirl of cream and place a few blueberries and 2 slices of kiwi fruit on top. Sandwich with a further meringue nest and continue until you get to the last layer.
Push in the liquorice arms halfway up the stack.
Before placing the top layer make the face' - carefully push liquorice sweets on to cocktail sticks and push into meringue. Make the mouth by cutting a liquorice stick in half to make the lips and mouth and insert teeth-shaped liquorice inside the lips. Attach to the meringue with a cocktail stick.
Place on top to complete the monster and serve with a squirt of strawberry sauce or extra cream.
Spooky Mitts - Makes about 6-8 mitts (depending on size of mitts!)
- 125g (4oz) butter, softened
- 150g (5oz) caster sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 225g (8oz) plain flour
- 1 lemon, grated rind
To decorate: - Squirty cream
- Red jam OR chocolate spread
- Red jellies - for fingernails
- Icing sugar for dusting
Cream together the softened butter with sugar until pale and creamy. Beat egg yolk into mixture and add flour and lemon rind, combine to form a stiff dough. Knead lightly into a ball and chill for a few minutes.
Meanwhile make a template using your' spooky mitts - get the kids to draw around their own hands and use these as cutouts for the biscuits. Alternatively use other spooky pastry cutouts.
Roll out the biscuit dough and carefully cut out the shapes. Place biscuits on a greased baking tray and cook in a preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes at Gas Mark 4/180C/350F (until very slightly starting to brown).
Remove and place on a cooling rack.
When cool, sandwich two spooky mitts together with either jam or chocolate spread and a large squirt of cream. Decorate with red jelly sweets for finger nails and dust with icing sugar.
Chocolate Witches' Cauldron - (makes a cauldron for four witches to share!)
- 4 chocolate chip muffins
- 1 banana, peeled and thickly sliced
- Mint chocolate ice cream
- Squirty cream
- Chocolate sauce (or melted Mars bars)
- Liquorice sticks to make into broomsticks
Take a large bowl and in the bottom, place the chocolate muffins, cut in half. Add to this the sliced banana and six scoops of ice cream. Layer on top of this swirls of cream and drizzle with chocolate sauce.
Finish off by decorating with liquorice sticks, cut at one end to look like broomsticks. Serve immediately to hungry witches!
Ghoulish Potion - makes 4
- Half a red jelly
- Half a green jelly
- Fruit such as raspberries, pomegranate, orange segments (not pineapple, papaya or kiwi - these fruits stop the jelly from setting)
- Pink fruit smoothie eg cranberry and raspberry or any strawberry-based smoothie
- Squirty cream
- Jelly snake sweets
Make up the first jelly layer following the instructions on the pack. Pour into a tall glass or plastic beaker and add two to three pieces of fruit and allow to set fully in the fridge.
Make up the second jelly layer and pour over the first and again leave to set. Once set, pour over the smoothie and top with a large swirl of cream.
Decorate with extra fruit or jelly and creepy snake jelly sweets.
