BLINK and you’ll miss British asparagus season. Just eight weeks long, you feel compelled to try and shoehorn it in to a meal at every opportunity.

The woody-tipped vegetable, which heralds the start of summer, was served as a limp accompaniment to my dinner for ages before I managed to master steaming it to perfection (I have become obsessed with my steamer)
