LONG summer days mean one thing in our house – more takeaways at the weekends.

Endless hours out on bikes or on the beach mean supermarket shopping and cooking are not at the top of our priority list.

But if we don’t choose carefully, we could end up with expanding waistlines by the time the clocks go back in the autumn.

Chinese food can be fatty and salty in some places, but dishes from Top Wok in Christchurch taste fresher and healthier than most.

Let’s face it, seaweed and scallop is never going to be named as a health food but it was a crispy and delicious start to our meals.

Sweet and sour chicken balls were succulent with a tasty, crispy coating and the beef in oyster sauce was tender with a light, subtle sauce. The crispy chicken in chilli, chosen from the Chef’s Recommendations list, was lovely and rice dishes were light and fluffy. Even the prawn crackers lacked the greasiness they’re usually associated with.

Top Wok has had a Christchurch branch since 1995 and boasts a huge menu, including an impressive selection of vegetarian and tofu options and even a smaller Thai menu.

Portion sizes are generous, providing real value for money, and with, prompt, free delivery within a two-mile radius, you can’t go wrong.

Our bill came to £24.80.
