WE’VE been glued to our screens for the past eight weeks but tonight Masterchef reaches boiling point.

THE iron man of cooking competitions has seen the amateur cooks produce a meal fit for royalty in Thailand, reproduce three star Michelin dishes in front of their creators and cook for some of the world’s finest chefs. And there’s just hours to go until we find out who is crowned the winner.

Our money is on Shelina, who has repeatedly impressed with food influenced by her Mauritian heritage. The former charity worker has gone from self dubbed “mama cooking” to producing some truly beautiful plates of food and only needs to say he word “mangos” to turn host Greg Wallace into a gibbering wreck.

If Shelina triumphs tonight she will become the first female winner since success story Thomasina Miers in 2005.

Second finalist, research analyst Andrew, seems to have put his mad scientist food combinations behind him (remember the fish in whiskey and honey sauce?) and rendered his mentors speechless with his pigeon dish last night. Prone to nervousness, let’s just hope the half-Japanese, half-Scottish contestant doesn’t fall at the final hurdle.

Tom’s chances of clinching the title appeared to be disappearing faster than a pudding put in front of Greg Wallace after failing to complete his amuse bouche and leaving finger prints on a plate at The Dorchester. However, the Yorkshire plasterer showed just how tenacious he could be last night when faced with the task of making honey tuiles as part of his dessert. Although he's shown moments of brilliance, we think he's just been too hit and miss in comparison to the likes of Shelina.

All will be revealed tonight but there's just one thing we need to know: whatever are we going to watch when it's all over?
