BACK in the 1980’s, steak was king and it was a golden era of steakhouses across the country.
As tastes changed, they gradually faded into the abyss and left meat lovers severely wanting.
But a new carnivores’ dream has emerged along Poole Quay, in the form of Rancho – purveyed as a tribute to the abundance of red meat enjoyed in South American countries like Argentina.
The sizable 116 seater restaurant is bright and airy, with cowhides adorning the walls and an authentic cactus protruding from the corner of the diner.
The service is attentive and charming, and waiters help to explain which cuts of meat are best suited to your tastes.
The menu promises tempting starters like the Chilli Squid, lightly battered and crispy, or perhaps the Gambas al Parilla – four large, succulently meaty prawns which came served with a salad.
Due to its quayside location, Rancho can also master seafood. What makes Rancho different is the knowledgeable staff, who explain how the onsite butchery works and that diners can order any size cut of meat they fancy.
For any steak enthusiasts out there, the record is a 2.2kg fillet steak.
Specialities include the Lomo de Churrasco, the very middle spiral cut from a fillet of beef and thought to be the softest of cuts.
Their fillets literally melt in your mouth, which may cause you to neglect the steak-cut chips, onion rings and even the delectable blue cheese sauce.
The other house speciality worth singing about is the Rancho’s Ribs.
This meat lover’s haven is certain to be a big hit, and has already developed an outstanding reputation at their branches in Southampton and Southsea.
Bournemouth residents also have cause to celebrate, as Rancho is opening up in June at The Triangle.
