IT’S been three weeks since we took my son to the new Day’s restaurant in Bournemouth – and he’s still talking about it!
He’s even asked if he can take some of his friends there for his 11th birthday next month.
An all you can eat Oriental-style buffet with a choice of 250 dishes including an eye-boggling array of desserts, is his idea of heaven.
It is a huge place below TK Maxx in the St Peter’s Quarter, well laid out, modern décor – and only the second branch so far in the UK.
You pay your money on arrival (drinks are extra but reasonably priced) and then you can spend as long as you like working your way through a vast selection of Asian cuisine including Chinese, Indonesian, Malaysian, Thai, Sushi and Indian. You can also have your choice of fresh meat and seafood cooked to order on a hot grill.
Considering the sheer volume of food, most of the dishes were good quality and the service was excellent.
As soon as you’ve finished one plate of food it is whisked away and then you can help yourself to another one and start again.
The staff keep a close eye on the proceedings so nothing runs out. If a dish starts to run low the details are tapped into one of the computer screens on the wall and it is topped up. Apart from feasting on your favourites, it is also a good opportunity to try new dishes too.
But it was the puddings that really sold it for my son. White and milk chocolate fountains, pick and mix fruits and sweets, a house made of biscuits and almost every type of pudding you can imagine.
All in all a fantastic food fest and one of the best all-you-can-eat restaurants I’ve been to in Dorset.
Just remember to wear trousers with an elasticated waistband!
