FANCY yourself as the next Quentin Tarantino or Steven Spielberg? The Lighthouse Poole has launched Indie Screen Dorset, a new initiative to support local independent filmmakers.

Indie Screen provides the opportunity for filmmakers to get their low budget feature films screened in the Lighthouse cinema, and is open to those who were born, live or work in Dorset or are graduates of Bournemouth University or the Arts University Bournemouth.

Films which have been predominantly shot in Dorset are also eligible.

Emulsion, the first film to appear under the Indie Screen banner, is a psychological noir by Bournemouth-based writer-director Suki Singh, and was filmed and produced entirely in Dorset by White Lantern Film. It tells the story of Ronny (played by Sam Heughan) – a man searching for his missing wife. When Isabella (Claudia Bassols) mysteriously disappears from a car park in a suburban town, Ronny becomes obsessed with finding her, leading to a dramatic and unexpected conclusion.

“We’ve had a tremendous amount of interest in the scheme from local filmmakers,” commented Lighthouse marketing officer Susie Carver.

“As one of the few independent cinemas in Dorset it is hugely important to us to support the wealth of filmmaking talent in the area and it seemed appropriate to make independent film a regular feature of our programme.

“Emulsion is a fantastic piece of filmmaking and we are delighted to have the opportunity to screen it at Lighthouse.”

  • Suki Singh’s Emulsion is screened on August 13 and the Lighthouse is now welcoming submissions for feature films from other local filmmakers. See lighthousepoole.co.uk.
