TWO of the greatest voices in soul music are united in Bournemouth on Saturday when Al Green and Michael McDonald play a double header at the BIC.

Al Green notched up a string of hits in the early 1970s with stone soul classics like Tired of Being Alone, Let’s Stay Together, Love and Happiness and Take Me to the River. Having recorded mainly gospel music since the 1980s he reaffirmed his return to secular sounds with last year’s rapturously received Lay It Down album.

Michael McDonald made his name with the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan before scoring major solo hits with Sweet Freedom and Yah Mo B There, as well as the duet with Patti LaBelle, On My Own.
