SELBY Pete Passed away peacefully at Swanage Hospital on Wednesday 23rd October 2024 aged 80 years. A much loved Husband, Brother and Uncle. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. His funeral service will be held at United Reformed Church, Swanage on Tuesday 12th November at 12 noon. My first Chef. Chef Pete.
At 15 yrs old my Dad thought it best for me to leave home and get to work (he was right). He asked Chef if he would be willing to take me on to do an apprenticeship under his and Chef Dave Curtis' guidance with 2 mates, Stu and Daz.
I was maybe a little bit of a handful but he was always supportive and patient with me and all the other cooks under his leadership.
Once I had finished the 3 yr apprenticeship, and Culinary school, I left for Bristol. A few yrs later I had some personal issues that were quite full on and asked if he would employ me again as the Pastry Chef and he said absoulutely - even if I was not his best employee previously, he gave me another chance.
