Is there actually anything newsworthy these days?
Every single monotonous dreary day, the same old drivel keeps hitting the headlines… Is there anyone innovative out there? Anyone with initiative?
No? Just me I guess.
For quite a while (I’m not interested, so I did not take note) the Jimmy Savile scandal has been occupying the headlines. A mass of news stories have surrounded the late children’s entertainer but what I don’t understand is what does anyone aim to get out of this situation? Is there some hope that “Jim’ll fix it”? I highly doubt it due to Saviles demise, so why is it still hitting the headlines?!!
It is being debated that there are people who are accountable for this within the BBC, but I really cannot comprehend why this is receiving such a spotlight when there are so many other stories and amazing accomplishments that receive a mere few minutes in the spotlight, but are hidden and hardly ever heard from again unless some digging is done, which is why I, Amber Lovell is here.
I’ve got two things I’d like to talk about this month – one is everyone’s obsession with how others look, and another is about something very close to ‘home’ shall we say.
Lately, gossip columns and magazines have been slating celebrities for their choice of eating more than one pea and a grain of rice in a week, by opting to have a ‘normal’ figure. I’m not going to lie, I cannot fathom why people’s weight and choice of attire is really any concern of anyone else to criticise.
If you type “Christina Aguilera” into Google, one of the top hits is “Christina Aguilera weight”. Doctors who have commented on her looks imply she is of a healthy weight and size, yet she is receiving such backlash for it, force feeding the idea that you must be slim to be successful and to receive positive feedback. Yes, Christina Aguilera does not do a good job of hiding her curves… But should she really have to?
If she’s comfortable with her body, perhaps you should be too… Secondly, I’m taking a swing at being charitable.
I am a pupil at the new, and pretty good Avonbourne Sixth Form, where the young folk in my year group have set up a charity in honour of their beloved friend Kyle Rees who sadly died earlier this year due to a tragic accident at school.
In a battle to save him, Kyle was then taken over to the paediatric intensive care unit at Southampton General Hospital, who unfortunately, were unable to save his young life. The reason why I am mentioning this charity is because I’ve seen the group work tirelessly promoting this charity.
Their aim is to raise £4000.00 which will see all proceedings being donated to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Southampton General Hospital to show thanks for their care of Kyle, and in a hope to help other children with life threatening illnesses and injuries.
If you wish to contact these young people and make a donation to their charity, their Facebook is www.facebook.com/4kcharity, or ‘tweet’ them @4k_charity, donations will also be accepted at reception of Avonbourne College, commonly known as Avonbourne School, Harewood Avenue.
