A BOURNEMOUTH mum is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for a cancer charity by hosting her second variety show.
Connie O’Gormley raised more than £2,000 for Cancer Research UK from a show she put on last year after losing three family members to the disease in 18 months.
She was so thrilled with the success of the event that she is now making it an annual production.
The mum-of-two, from Townsend, lost her step-mum to lung cancer, her grandmother to anal cancer and her other grandmother to womb cancer.
She also lost her uncle and grandad to stomach cancer several years ago.
Their loss inspired her to take action and, after a sponsored weight loss didn’t raise as much as she hoped, she organised An Evening of Magic, Comedy, Music and Dance at the Bournemouth East Liberal Club in Holdenhurst Road.
She is now appealing for help to stage the event again, at the same venue, on Saturday July 27.
Connie, who works as a purchase ledger supervisor for an independent plumbing merchant, said: “It was such a big success last year.
“So we are doing a variety show again and we are going to have a separate children’s area with their own entertainment.
“As part of the entertainment this year four men are going to be waxed – it’s going to be synchronised waxing to music, so I’m looking for four ladies who can do waxing.”
Connie, who is now a committee member of Beat Cancer Bournemouth, is also looking for a stand-up comedian and a spiritual medium, as well as any other local entertainers who would like to be involved.
She added: “I would like as much variety as possible. I’m desperate for raffle prizes, and I’m looking for a print company to help with banners, posters and leaflets.”
