THE new operators of a Bournemouth nightclub with a history of noise problems have been warned they are in “the last-chance saloon.”

Alika in Christchurch Road will shortly be reopening under new ownership after councillors decided to give the premises one final chance.

Members of the licensing board could have chosen to revoke the club’s licence after hearing allegations it was once again posing a problem to its neighbours.

Instead, they added new conditions to the licence and warned the new management they would be monitoring progress carefully. The operators will have to put in new doors, will not be allowed to host any events before 10pm and will have to carry out acoustic work.

Cllr Andrew Morgan, chairman of the licensing board, said: “The ownership of the premises is changing and we’re giving the new owners a chance to run it properly, subject to getting the necessary acoustic work done.

“We told them they were in the last chance saloon. They have been left in no doubt if they annoy the neighbours again we will look on it in a different way. It’s really only because it’s been taken over by new people who have a track record in turning round difficult premises.”

Environmental health officers said the club had agreed to submit an acoustic report at the review hearing last August but had failed to do so. There had also been further complaints about excessive noise.

Toby Loney, the new manager of Alika, said: “I am very pleased with the decision. We look forward to seeing you all very soon when we reopen.”
