VILLAGERS who saw 350 motorists prosecuted on their doorstep last year are working with police to tackle speeding.
Traffic officers met up with residents at Winterborne Whitechurch and used a mobile speed camera to target drivers passing on the A354, which runs through the village.
The visit was set up as part of the No Excuse road safety campaign and motorists were caught speeding and committing other offences including driving with no MOT, driving while using a mobile phone and not wearing a seatbelt.
Others were spoken to for driving with snow-covered windscreens.
As part of the day residents, including children from Dunbury Primary School, attended the village hall and looked at road safety education tools including a reaction tester.
And a sign which advertises the ‘No Excuse’ campaign was erected to highlight the number of motorists caught speeding at Winterborne Whitechurch last year.
The parish council will update the sign with the numbers prosecuted this year.
Brian Austin, the No Excuse project manager, said: “Having the full support of a small rural community is an important element of our road safety activity.
“We will continue to work together with our communities to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on Dorset’s roads.”
