THE British Heart Foundation is urging people to make a splash for the charity by taking part in the sponsored Bournemouth Pier to Pier Swim.
Starting from Bournemouth Pier, the 1.4 mile open water swim along the coastline to Boscombe Pier takes place on Sunday July 14 and is suitable for swimmers of all abilities.
Andy Coles, event organiser for the BHF, said: “Places are strictly limited so book your place so make sure you don’t miss out on this memorable event.
“Sadly every seven minutes someone dies from a heart attack and nearly all of us know someone who has been affected by heart disease. Save lives by getting involved, having fun and getting fit.”
One participant urging others to sign up is David Bigglestone, who underwent a triple heart bypass 10 years ago.
The 54-year-old, a sales executive for Bournemouth-based removals and storage firm Britannia Leatherbarrows, said: “I know only too well the importance of raising money for the British Heart Foundation. Without their hard work and dedication I and many others may not be leading the lives that we do now “This will be my third consecutive Pier-to-Pier swim and I have even persuaded four colleagues from work to join me.”
Entry for the swim is £20 for adults and £10 for children.
Children 14 years and above may take part but under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. BHF will use the money raised to help fund its pioneering research to continue to save lives.
