STAFF at a Corfe Mullen children’s hospice are hoping to turn bric-a-brac into cash with their second-ever auction next month.

An auction of collectables in aid of Julia’s House Hospice will be held at the Thistle Hotel in Poole Quay on March 13, with shop staff already rounding up the pick of donated knick-knacks.

The hard-working hospice employees will be hoping to repeat last year’s success, when eagle-eyed antiques expert Paul Cartlidge, who is a relief manager for Julia’s House, spotted a valuable vase in a box of items destined for a charity shop shelf.

The small brown vase turned out to be a rare piece of Bernard Leach pottery, which raised £1,600 for the hospice.

Among lots picked out so far for this year’s auction is a solid silver limited edition goblet commissioned by the Dean and Chapter of Westminster to commemorate the wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, which has an auction estimate of £300 to £400.

There will be two viewing days ahead of the auction on March 11 from noon until 5pm, and March 12 from 9am until 5pm.

Items can be donated to any of the charity’s 12 shops, or call 01202 644220 to arrange collection.
