YOUNGSTERS can often feel disengaged from the political process.

And the corridors of power can seem even more remote if you are aged 10 and 11.

So full marks to the pupils at Branksome Heath Middle School in Poole who wrote to the Echo and their local MP to try and resolve an issue they felt strongly about.

As a result of their complaint, Borough of Poole took action.

The topic that was the focus of their attention was a subject that has been highlighted in the Echo’s news pages and letter pages for many years past and probably for many years in the future – and that’s dog fouling.

Members of the public often moan that their complaints aren’t heard.

They often say that they don’t know who to write to in order to get their opinions across.

But thanks to the pupils here in Poole, that’s a lesson we can all learn for the good.
