THE devastated family of a 19-year-old killed in a crash have paid tribute to him.

Teenager Mikey Maguire, of Upton, died after the car in which he was a passenger came off the road and struck a tree.

The collision happened at around 10pm in rural Huntick Road, close to the entrance of Huntick Farm Caravan Park, Lytchett Matravers, when a silver Renault Clio driven by a 20-year-old man from Poole left the carriageway on a bend and ploughed across the bank.

The driver was a close friend of Mikey’s – he has been questioned by police at the weekend and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Firefighters from Poole were involved in releasing the victims from the car but tragically Mr Maguire died at the scene.

His mum Allison said her beloved son will be missed by all who knew him.

“My baby was so loved by everyone,” she said.

“I loved him so very much.

“Anyone who came into contact with him loved him instantly.

“He was the loveliest, kindest person anyone could ever know.

“Not one person had a bad word to say about him. My baby was taken from me – he was and still is a much-loved son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson and friend.”

Mikey was dedicated to his fitness and could often be found playing Call of Duty.

He liked particular TV programmes, choosing series Skins and The Inbetweeners as his favourites.

His sister Jordan, 21, said Mikey was a wonderful uncle to her children, who are four and three.

She said in tribute to the teenager: “My brother was the best uncle my kids could have asked for.

“I can’t imagine life without him and I will miss him every day for the rest of my life.”

His older brother Jake, 23, was too distraught to speak.

Allison said Mikey had turned his life around over the last year.

“He was such a wonderful, loving uncle – his niece and nephew loved him,” she said.

“He was such a lovely boy. You couldn’t wish to meet anyone better.

“I’m so proud of him – my lovely boy.”

Scores of Mikey’s friends have stepped forward to offer their own tributes on social networking sites.

One friend wrote: “Always the best people who are taken from the world.”

Another said: “Mikey will always be in our hearts.”

Many have also visited the site of the crash to lay flowers at the base of the tree.

One of several cards left at the scene reads: “Thinking of you little buddy, you’ll be missed by many.”

Any witnesses to the collision or anyone with information relating to the collision or to the Renault Clio are asked to contact Dorset Police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Road subject of long safety campaign

Huntick Road is a busy cut through between Lytchett Matravers and Poole which has a series of bends to negotiate. It has been the subject of a long campaign by Cllr Fred Drane who represents Lytchett on Dorset County Council and Purbeck District Council.

“I have been fighting for this road to be made safe for the last two years,” he said. “There are so many bends.”

He said where the accident took place under the trees, it was so dark it was “like night” during the day.

He has led a walk along the road and as long ago as 2008 was highlighting the dangers to schoolchildren of walking from Lytchett Matravers to Lytchett Minster School.

The county council has painted provided “slow” signs and a white line on the road but he called for this to be extended and for a 40mph speed limit to be imposed on the busy rural road.

“When I drive up there I only do 40mph because there are so many bends,” he said.

He described the accident as a “terrible tragedy” and added: “all our thoughts are with the family of this young man. It is a very sad loss of life.”
