WORK is well under way on a £2.8million hydrotherapy pool at Victoria Education Centre with the complex on target for completion this summer.

Funding has been secured for the modern pool and the Daily Echo-backed Sparkle Appeal is now setting its sights on a therapy centre at the Branksome site.

So far more than £600,000 has been raised with a host of events being planned to boost the coffers of the worthy cause.

Sparkle Appeal manager Diana Newbury said: “The pool is on schedule for completion this summer with the facilities ready for our pupils to use at the start of the next academic year.

“It is vital for children who suffer from disabilities to have hydrotherapy; the current pool is over 30 years old and no longer fit for purpose.”

She added: “The therapy centre will be built on the site of the current pool and used by our physiotherapists, speech and language and occupational therapists who will be able to work under one roof for the first time.”

Victoria Education Centre cares for around 100 three to 19-year-olds and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing respite and nursing care.

Forthcoming fundraising events include an Evening of Song and Music at Poole Yacht Club on New Harbour Road on Monday, February 25, featuring Wimborne and Ferndown Singers with guests. Tickets costing £5 are available from yacht club or choir members or by phoning 01202 672687.

Victoria Education Centre will host a charity race night on Friday, March 15. Tickets cost £7 and include a buffet supper.

There will be a buffet, prizes and a raffle. To find out more phone 01202 758309.
