A HARD-WORKING Bournemouth bobby and a courageous special constable have been honoured at the Dorset Police annual awards ceremony.

PC Dino Ferrari, who is based at Winton police station, won the Hambleton Bobby Award.

North Bournemouth neighbourhood inspector Mike Claxton said: “PC Ferrari is an excellent patrol officer. He has one of the highest arrest rates in the area, arresting 91 people last year. He has even detained offenders while off-duty.

“Following a concern raised by the local community about drug dealing in public last year, PC Ferrari instigated extensive patrols in a local park. Within three hours he made two arrests and seized 20 wraps of crack cocaine.”

He added: “PC Ferrari is an exceptionally proactive officer with tireless energy and he fully deserves this award.”

The Special Constable of the Year award went to deputy section officer Glen Caddy, who is based at Wareham police station and works an average of 40 hours a week in his spare time.

Glen attended almost 500 incidents and has led the Purbeck special constabulary team in initiatives to crackdown on crime and antisocial behaviour.

Debi Potter, chief officer of the Special Constabulary, said: “Glen has delivered an exceptional level of service over the past year and should be proud of his achievements.

“He saved the life of a man who had taken an overdose and displayed real courage to enter a burning building to save the occupier.

His efforts, and the efforts of the entire Special Constabulary in Dorset, make an incredible contribution to policing.”
