WIDELY acclaimed DJ and producer Paul Van Dyk is opening the Slinky Valentines Ball at the O2 tonight with a selection of new tracks from his upcoming (R)evolution album.
The German trance wizard has thus far kept the contents of the new record, a remix of last year’s Evolution, under wraps, meaning Bournemouth clubbers will be in for something of an exclusive during his three-hour set.
PvD, as he is known to his fans, has been performing since 1991 and needs little introduction for dance enthusiasts as one of the first artists to receive a Grammy nomination in the new Best Dance/Electronic album category for 2004’s Reflections.
Twice-nominated the World’s No.1 DJ by DJ Magazine, he has sold some three million albums worldwide, including the highly-praised In Between (2007), and regularly tours international festivals and club nights.
Over the last few years he has branched out into soundtracks, writing music for video games, including Fifa 2004, Mirror’s Edge (2008) and Grand Slam Tennis 2 (2012), and for films including 2008’s The Dark Knight.
For Paul it is a return trip to Slinky at the O2 after a successful performance there in 2008, and he is full of praise for the venue and its regular music fans. On Twitter this week he called for Bournemouth music lovers to “show me a lot of love” and “make a lot of noise”.
His new album is released next week.
The ball will also feature Norwegian trance DJ Ørjan Nilsen, currently working on a new studio album, who will be mixing trance, techno and house on the night, as well as Lee Haslam and Dav Gomrass.
The CTRL night in Room 2 will see sets from Leolife (Infrasonic Recordings), Messy A b2b Traian (Trance Sanctuary), Tristan C (Pure Dance), Pro'träp·ik, Vic Light, Asa Mikel and Michael Norton (all sic).
There will be 100 tickets available on the door.
