A HOST of stars have jotted down their childhood dreams on postcards in a bid to raise money for disabled youngsters.

Disability charity Livability, which runs Poole’s Victoria Education Centre and Sports College, approached celebrities and asked them to cast their minds back, then write, draw or doodle what they wanted to be as children.

Carol Vorderman, Dame Judi Dench, Joanna Lumley, Gordon Ramsey, John Malkovich and Jo Brand were among those who agreed to take part.

Bids close today for their postcards to be auctioned off with proceeds going towards supporting disabled youngsters.

This initiative is part of the national charity’s newly-launched Let Me In campaign, which aims to remove some of the barriers that limit disabled people’s achievements and quality of life.

Victoria Education Centre and Sports College principal Chris Davies said: “We hope that many people in Dorset have taken part in this charity auction and helped us raise vital funds to support disabled children and young people.

“As part of the project we asked celebrities to tell us their childhood aspirations – having a disability shouldn’t mean that you cannot see your dreams for the future come true.

“Here at Victoria Education Centre and Sports College we help our disabled students develop the skills and confidence they will need to realise their ambitions and fulfil their potential.”

The postcards can be seen on the charity’s website, livability.org.uk

  • Livability interim chief executive Dave Webber said he was delighted so many high profile individuals had decided to help raise awareness of disability issues.

“As a charity our aim is to help disabled people achieve their full potential,” said Mr Webber.

“There are still many barriers and, with our campaign, we want to change this for the better.”
