AN ENTERPRISING young boy and his friend are the talk of the playground after setting up a fruit stall at their school.

Reece Root and Sinead Morrison, both 11, who are members of their school council at Kings Park Primary School, mentioned that Reece’s mum, Tina, worked on a stall at Boscombe market, when trying to devise healthy eating ideas.

After Tina spoke to her boss, it was decided that Reece and Sinead could have a selection of apples, bananas, oranges and more, to sell on their own mini stall in the school playground on Fridays.

Tina said: “Reece told me that he needed 80 pieces of fruit and my boss was really good and happy to help.

She added: “Every week, he and Sinead offer the fruit for 20p a piece and all the money goes back to the school.

Tina says that word has got around and now even the teachers are coming to the stall to buy a healthy snack and however many items Reece and Sinead are given, they always sell out.

“I bring the fruit home on a Thursday and then they take it to school the next day.

“It’s quite sweet, really, and a nice idea.

“Last time he did the stall, they made £17.60, which will help the Parents and Teachers Association, who are always struggling.

“It’s almost like something out of Dragons’ Den. It’s all their own initiative, which they choose to do during their break times and lunchtimes.”

Karl Bellows, the co-owner of W Bellows and Son Fruit and Veg, said: “Reece comes down and helps on the stall in the holidays and weekends sometimes, when he’s not at school. He does good work, he knows how to speak to people and he’s quick with maths as well.

“I think it is a good idea and will benefit well in the future, when it comes to helping other people.

“He’s like our little Alan Sugar’s apprentice.

“I thought it was a good idea and so we try and donate the bits he can sell.

“Who knows what he will go on to in the future.”
