BOURNEMOUTH MP Conor Burns, pictured, is supporting an Obesity Management Association campaign after hosting a reception for the charity in Parliament.
The My Weight, My Future campaign urges everyone in Bournemouth to take control and responsibility for their weight and to know their body mass index, or BMI, to reduce pressure on the NHS.
Conor, who represents Bournemouth West, said: “I am delighted to be able to get behind this campaign. The latest Health Survey for England shows that well over 50 per cent of women and 60 per cent of men are overweight or obese, giving us one of the highest rates of obesity in Europe.
“Apart from costing the NHS over £5billion each year the toll on people’s health is huge. I encourage people to really take control of their weight and take the opportunity to check their BMI.”
