THE men accused of murdering Geoffrey Reed were overheard talking about where they had buried a body, a court heard yesterday.

Daniel Anderson, who lived with Mr Reed in Cecil Road, Boscombe, told police about a conversation he heard between Lee Wareham, Stuart Wareham and Benjamin Henry Walter on June 8, 2012.

In a video interview played to Winchester Crown Court, Mr Anderson recalled Lee Wareham ask: “Where did you bury him?”

He claims he then heard Stuart Wareham say: “It’s near the shooting range, near the farm.

“It’s not far from the road, it ain’t far walking distance.”

Mr Anderson claims he heard Benjamin Walter say: “Ah we had to drop the body off and walk all the way to his Nan’s to get a shovel.”

Mr Anderson also told police he’d heard strange noises coming from the bathroom of the flat on June 7 last year that made him feel “uncomfortable”.

He said: “It’s like you got someone’s legs being forced into a bath. Someone being dragged about.

“Just felt like they were trying to move the body around the room.”

He told police he attempted to open the bedroom door but someone was holding the handle up.

Mr Anderson said he saw Stuart with a black suitcase in the lounge.

He described the suitcase as being an “unusual shape”, and added: “Making my stomach turn thinking about it because now I think about it, it did look packed.”

The court also heard evidence from Mr Anderson that he later noticed the bathroom was “completely clean”.

The trial was told that Mr Anderson returned to the police station two days later to tell them Stuart Wareham had “confided” in him that he’d killed Mr Reed.

Mr Anderson told the court yesterday: “I asked why and he said that he strangled him for eight minutes and then put a screwdriver through his head.”

Asked under cross examination by Ian Lawrie QC, representing Stuart Wareham, why he hadn’t told police about this in his first interview, Mr Anderson replied: “I didn’t want to believe it. It took a lot of courage to finally call the police in the end.”

Mr Anderson denied that he’d seen Mr Reed’s body in the lounge and denied suggesting putting Mr Reed’s body in a suitcase.

He also denied suggestions that he helped clean the flat to get rid of the evidence. Another witness, Paige Gardiner, told the court that Mr Reed’s flat looked clean on June 7 last year. “Everything looked like it had a home and had been polished.”

Mr Reed, a convicted sex offender, was murdered in his flat, before his body was stuffed into a suitcase and buried in a shallow grave in woods, the court previously heard.

The 57-year-old’s body was found in a suitcase hidden on land off Huntick Road in Lytchett Matravers, the hearing was told.

Stuart Raymond Wareham, 26, Lee Raymond Wareham, 33, and Benjamin Henry Walter, 22, are accused of murdering Mr Reed between June 6 and June 14 last year.

All three defendants deny murder. The trial continues.
