A BOSCOMBE councillor is taking the plunge with a sky dive this summer to raise funds for a local family support charity.

Despite being scared of heights, Chris Wakefield will be stepping out of a plane at a height of at least 10,000 feet on May 19 for Springbourne Family Centre, where he is a trustee.

Cllr Wakefield, who last year had his hair shorn to support the charity, said sky diving was something he has always wanted to attempt, and he hoped his jump would inspire others to conquer their fears.

He said: “This is something I have always wanted to do, so I thought why not do it to raise funds for something I believe in.

“They do fantastic work at the centre and they get no funding other than what they can raise. Hopefully I can raise awareness of their work and provide some practical support at the same time.

“I am scared of heights so it is going to be quite a challenge for me.

“I will be stretching myself, but it is a case of practising what you preach as I always encourage people not to feel constrained by their fears.

Perhaps it might encourage someone to go out and try something they thought they couldn’t do.”
