FRIENDS of soldier Warren Jackson, who died in a motorbike accident on the A31 in 2011, will complete a cycle ride in his honour this summer.

Mr Jackson, known affectionately as Jacko, was a career soldier with almost 25 years’ service, including combat tours of Afghanistan and Iraq.

The father-of-two was a keen supporter of the Help for Heroes charity and a committee member at Wareham’s Sandmartins Activity Club, which his children attended.

Following his death, friends of the Royal Artillery Commando, 43, who spent 14 years at Royal Marines Poole, organised a sponsored ride around the Isle of Purbeck to raise funds for two causes he supported.

Ride organiser Keith Cranfield, who described Warren as a ‘great guy’, is hoping for a bumper turnout this year.

He said: “Jacko was a great supporter of Sandmartins.

“This event is designed to commemorate his hard work and to carry on the tradition of raising funds for a cause that was dear to his heart.”

This year’s 20 or 40-mile ride starts at The Purbeck School, Wareham, and finishes on Wareham Quay.

Mr Cranfield: “All sponsorship money will be divided between Sand-martins and Help for Heroes. Jacko’s family also supports both causes.

“For this year another charity will be included and entrants will be given the opportunity of nominating a charity of their choice.

“A draw will be made to select the charity and £100 will be given from proceeds to the successful charity.”

The ride is set for 11am on June 23, and is open to anyone.
