US ROCKERS Paramore return defiant and more grown up with their self-titled fourth album, which is more cohesive than previous ones.

It’s been four years since we’ve heard from the band, led by the irrepressible Hayley Williams, but after two founding members of the band, brothers Josh and Zac Farro, left in 2010, it’s been an emotional rollercoaster for the now three-piece.

Mercifully it’s less angsty with a lot less of the teenage problems that in the past has verged on the tacky side of Avril Lavigne’s punky pop .

There’s still a lot of anger and standing their ground in the songs, especially in Now, while Fast In My Car is a great opener and Last Hope sounds like a melancholic break-up song.

Be Alone and Proof are the band at their original and best, so fans needn’t worry about them tearing themselves away from their roots.

This 17-track record shows off a more mature side of Paramore with gut-wrenching lyrics and songs that stick in your head for days.
