These two photographs show the latest fly tipping incidents on our nature reserve.
The wheelbarrow shows what was collected and included rusty corrugated tin and burnt wood as well as garden soil. Many similar such incidents have been recorded over a long period in the same area.Whilst collecting this ,the two black bags were noticed nearby and appear to have been thrown over a garden fence. They contained leaves.
Garden waste has a detrimental effect on nature reserves as it enriches the soil.It can also contain seeds and cuttings from specialised garden plants which can take root and spread further into the reserve; this can be very damaging to the native animals and plants of the heathland.
The discarding of garden waste onto nature reserves is against Bylaw 2(vii) and is ILLEGAL under Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and could result in a maximum fine of £20,000.
Please report any such incidents to Bournemouth Borough Council's Countryside Team on 01202535140.
