CHRISTCHURCH Quay plays host to a traditional English fete this weekend as the Great Christchurch Bake Weekend gets underway.

The grand finale of the Christchurch Food and Wine festival will see white marquees hosting baking demonstrations galore and a helter skelter along with yummy stalls and delicious drinks on offer for hungry visitors.

The event, which takes place tomorrow and Sunday, includes demonstrations by local chefs and experts throughout the day.

These will include Sarah Howard from the Academy of Culinary Arts, Tim Gower from the Captain’s Club Hotel, Kirsti Maybank from Claridges Hotel, Simon Hallam from the Crooked Beam and Helen Shaw of Vanilla Pink Cakes.

Special guest, Jo Wheatley, 2011 winner of BBC’s Great British Bake-off, will be at the event on Saturday, demonstrating her skills and also judging the adult baking competition.

On Sunday, festival patron Lesley Waters will be judging the children’s baking along with the showstopper category.

Other experts on Sunday will include Des Burke from Flavours School of Cookery, Luke Stuart from White Pepper Cookery School and Jenny Budzynski from Miss Ingredient.

There are still a wide variety of special offers on around the borough with many of the restaurants and eateries putting on special deals for hungry diners.

The Three Tuns in Bransgore will host a family fun day and hog roast on Sunday from 12noon while The Nelson will be holding a Super Sunday Lunch Roast with live music from Alex Roberts.
