FAMILIES and friends from all walks of life came together to celebrate diversity in Boscombe.
The monthly event celebrating cultural diversity was launched on Sunday with organisers heralding it a “real success”.
The event was part of the ‘It’s All About Culture’ project which sees people from different ethnic backgrounds living in the area, to meet and explore music, dance, cuisine and other aspects of their cultural heritage.
It was held at Selwyn Hall, St John’s Church in Christchurch Road, with people from the British, African, Caribbean, Nepalese and Polish communities meeting.
Organiser Brie Logan, business connector from M&S, said: “I don’t think people realise just how much diversity there is in this area.
“The event was a real success with 120 people from across the community attending at one point. The aim is to bring the different cultures in Boscombe together.
“There was different food for people to sample and music from the different groups.”
Performances were given by Nepalese Dancers from the UK Nepal Friendship Society, Saima Ahmed from the Bengali Association showed people how to put on a sari and folk music band Colanader also performed.
Music was also put on from members of the Afro Talawah band.
Brie added: “There were people there of all different ages and cultures. It was brilliant to make people aware of each other’s cultures and to celebrate the diversity we have in this area.”
