A NEW inquest has been ordered into the death of a military police officer who claimed to have been raped by two of her colleagues.

Corporal Anne-Marie Ellement from Bournemouth was found hanged outside Bulford Barracks in Wiltshire in October 2011 after an investigation, carried out by the Royal Military Police itself, concluded no charges should be brought.

The 30-year-old’s sisters sought a judicial review after the first inquest, in March 2012, recorded a verdict of suicide.

Now the High Court has ordered a second inquest which will be heard at Wiltshire and Swindon Coroner’s Court in Salisbury in February next year.

“It can be very frustrating that we have to wait so long for the new inquest but as long as we get to the truth...” said her sister, Khristina Swain.

Her other sister, Sharon Hardy from Muscliff in Bournemouth said: “There is more clarity now. “It’s becoming a lot clearer now that more evidence has come to light.”

Cpl Ellement claimed she had been raped while she was drunk and told a friend afterwards by email: “Hardly anyone is talking to me.

“Like I’d make up something that is this bad, destroying my career and losing all my friends.”

The first inquest heard Cpl Ellement, who grew up in Christchurch and Muscliff, was “a nervous wreck” from work pressure and hanged herself after finding out on Facebook that her ex-boyfriend had another partner.

Lance Corporal Kareena Brooke told the inquest: “I had the impression she wasn’t liked by some of her colleagues and they would give her a hard time.”

Her ex-boyfriend, Robert Neal, said she had sent angry and upset texts to him on the day she died.

After the first inquest, Ms Hardy said: “I do know Anne-Marie never recovered from being raped.”
