OVER 120 college students got involved in the first event leading up to up to a special charity awareness day.
Young people from Bournemouth and Poole College held a Summer Games event in Poole Park to kick off the month of fundraising leading up to Do It for Dorset Day, which takes place on June 21.
They played team games and got involved with sporting activities to raise their own funds for the Bournemouth and Poole College fun, which has been set up by the College to support students through bursaries.
Alex Leam, Student Engagement Officer, said: “The Students Union at Bournemouth and Poole has always been very active in fundraising to support local causes and community work.
“So, seeing so many students out in Poole Park to support a cause very close to us is fantastic.”
Do It for Dorset Day, organised by Dorset Community Foundation, will bring together local charities, corporate companies and statutory bodies to celebrate living and working in the county.
The aim is to fundraise and raise awareness for the smaller local charities within the area who provide vital support and services to those in need within the community, who are struggling up against the larger regional and national charities.
All funds raised on the day will feed the three community funds that Dorset Community Foundation manages of Bournemouth, Poole and shire Dorset.
Donating through one of the Community Foundation’s Community Giving funds ensures that every penny stays in the area to support local charities and community groups.
Support the local community fund by donating through cheque, made out to Dorset Community Foundation, sent to: Abchurch Chambers, 24 St Peter’s Road, Bournemouth, BH1 2LN.
