SEVERAL roads were left without power in Bournemouth this morning after a car was crashed on a roundabout and abandoned.

The car was left on the roundabout after colliding with a sign in the early hours of Saturday.

Officers from Dorset Police attended the scene at 4.07am, where they found a blue BMW, registered to a Bournemouth owner, abandoned on the roundabout close to St Peter’s Road and Bath Road.

Scottish and Southern Power Distribution was called as the vehicle’s position meant that electrical wires on the roundabout were left exposed.

Four surrounding roads - Bath Road, St Peter's Road, Gervis Road and Grove Road - were left without power until around 2pm.

No one is believed to have been injured and the vehicle was recovered.

Ken Robins, owner of Hotel Celebrity, said: “All residencies and hotels who serve from that particular feeder station, run by Scottish and Southern, will be affected.”

He added: “We have two electric meters in this hotel, one which feeds most of the rooms, which is still running fine, and then the one which runs off the feeder station affected, which has left 10 rooms without power or lights.

“We were fully booked but fortunately we had some early check-outs, so were able to accommodate the guests of those rooms affected, to be able to use the electricity as needed."
