LEGENDARY cricketer David Gower will be swapping a bat for a bike this summer to raise funds for a cause close to his heart.
The former England cricket team captain will be among those taking part in the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride on July 7.
David, who will cycle 25 miles, has supported the major fund-raising event for several years, taking part when his cricket commentary allows.
He said: “Macmillan do a great job for people with cancer and I am pleased to support the work they do. I am looking forward to a day out on a bike before the Ashes test matches begin.”
Ride organiser Peter Smith-Nicholls said: “We are pleased to reintroduce the 25-mile distance for our 25th year and hope lots of cyclists sign up and ride with David.”
There will also be more challenging 38, 48, 60 and 100-mile courses along the River Stour and through the quiet parkland of Charborough Estate.
Peter, who launched the event in 1989 and has helped raise £1million, added: “Everyone is touched by cancer in some way and it is estimated that by 2030 there will be four million people living with the disease.
“Macmillan’s new Not Alone campaign aims to reach out to everyone and give them the vital support needed in difficult times.” You can enter online at macmillan bikeride.co.uk or contact Macmill-an Dorset Bike Ride at PO Box 1432 Broadstone, BH18 9YE or call 01202 601705 for entry forms.
