A NEW PARK for Poole residents to enjoy opened to rapturous cheers and applause in Oakdale yesterday.
Stanley Green Park, off Christopher Crescent, used to be a space which frequently flooded and could not be used by the residents of the houses which surround it.
But, thanks to a large army of volunteers made up of 150 school children, adults with special needs, Dorset Wildlife Trust and local community groups, the area has been transformed into an open park for families to enjoy.
Now there is lush green grass, climbing areas, a dedicated ball court and a natural habitat for wildlife, which will grow over the years to reveal fruit trees, shrubs and flowers for people to enjoy.
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Phil Eades, was on hand to officially open Stanley Green Park, before taking to the ball court, to play a game of football with some of the young local residents.
He said: “This is down to a fantastic partnership, between Poole Council and Poole Housing Partnership.”
He added: “It has and will become a great facility for local residents and children to use. The provision of play areas within Poole, with two children of my own, is a cause close to my heart, and this is reflected in two of the Mayor’s Chosen Charities this year.”
There was plenty for children of all ages to enjoy for the special open day, including sports coaching, games, face painting, bouncy castle, ice cream and lots more to show the new park off at its best.
