A DOG turned a cooker hob on and set fire to a bag of rubbish left on top of it, firefighters said.
A Dorset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said they were called out when the pet turned on the hob at a house in Green Close in Sturminster Newton at 5.30pm on Thursday.
A spokesman said: “Crews investigated and found a quantity of rubbish on fire that had been left on a cooker hob.
“A dog is believed to have jumped onto the kitchen appliance and turned on the hob.
“This is not as unusual as it seems and we’ve had incidents of a similar nature in the past.”
The kitchen blinds and a picture on the wall were damaged alongside the rubbish being destroyed and the ground floor being affected by smoke.
The spokesman warned pet owners to isolate the power when not in use.
