A MAN who burgled a Bournemouth home has been jailed for 22 months.
Eamon Beresford, 36, pleaded guilty at Bournemouth Crown Court after being arrested outside a house on the East Cliff on Monday, April 15.
He had been discovered by the victim in the utility room and was detained by another occupant of the address when he tried to make his escape.
Beresford was searched upon arrest and was found to be in possession of stolen items from the property.
DC Martin Farrington, of the Priority Crime Team, said: “It was a frightening ordeal for the victim to come downstairs and find a stranger inside her house.
“She quickly raised the alarm and contacted the police. Her future son-in-law heard her and managed to stop Beresford from escaping until the police arrived. He displayed considerable courage and enabled the police to make a quick arrest.
“Due to these actions Beresford is now behind bars and the public are protected from his criminal behaviour.
“The severity of this sentence demonstrates that these crimes will not be tolerated.”
