BOURNEMOUTH Square was transformed into a scene from Alice in Wonderland, as disabled young people invited shoppers to join them in a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.
Members of the Chatterboxes group played flamingo croquet and challenged passers-by to match up pictures of celebrities with their disabilities.
The Chatterboxes are young people with disabilities who produce a quarterly magazine to give disabled young people a voice. It is part of Bournemouth YMCA and is supported by Bournemouth council.
Poppy Sargeaunt, disability youth advisor, said: “They’re really passionate about changing the public’s perception. They get really frustrated when people assume that just because they have a disability they won’t be listened to.”
And 20-year-old Joely Colmer said: “Chatterboxes changed my life for the better. I was going through a really tough time and they developed me holistically in every possible way. ”
