A POOLE-based charity has shown its support for the Do It Dorset Day taking place on Friday, June 21.
Diverse Abilities Plus, which supports children and adults with physical and learning disabilities across the county, is backing the special day, which has been organised by Dorset Community Foundation to highlight the work of charities at local level.
Beccy Payne, community fundraising officer at Diverse Abilities Plus, said “We really appreciate the support of the Dorset Community Foundation in helping us to raise vital funds and awareness of the charity’s work supporting children and adults with physical and learning disabilities across Dorset.”
The Do It for Dorset Day will bring together local charities, corporate companies and statutory bodies to celebrate living and working in the county.
The aim is to fundraise and raise awareness for the smaller local charities within the area who provide vital support and services to those in need within the community, who are struggling up against the larger regional and national charities.
Foundation chairman Ashley Rowlands said: “We find that all our funds are over-subscribed when they open up for applications, and the demand is only growing.
“We are facing cuts in every area at local level, which effects the smaller charities and community groups who are the first port of call for many people that need help, when they are really struggling themselves.”
All funds raised on the day will feed the three community funds that Foundation manages – Bournemouth, Poole and shire Dorset.
Donating through one of the Foundation’s community giving funds ensures that every penny stays in the area to support local charities and community groups.
Support the community fund by donating through cheque, made out to Dorset Community Foundation, sent to: Abchurch Chambers, 24 St Peter’s Road, Bournemouth, BH1 2LN.
